Primary Factory: Terra Communications System: Elisist/Warlord J-class Comm Suite Targeting and Tracking System: Warlord Killer Crosshair System OVERVIEW The Pulsar is the first new LAM design to be produced in a long time. Elisist apparently managed to get their hands on extensive amounts of old LAM specifications and designs, and has begun not only producing Pulsars, but repair parts for other LAMs. This means that the LAM, once thought to be slipping into antiquity, is resurfacing, and becoming more popular among Inner Sphere forces as another tool the Clans choose not to make use of. CAPABILITIES As a medium 'Mech, the Pulsar does not break any tremendous ground, but is a very capable and efficient 'Mech, in many ways head and shoulders above most other 55-ton 'Mechs. Three medium pulse lasers on either arm constitute the total firepower of the Pulsar, giving it adequete damage-dealing capabilities. Although its armament is limited to 180 meters, its speed allows it to close in quickly on enemy units, fire off a volley, and then retreat. With 17 double heat sinks, it can more than handle any heat problems caused by its weaponry. It isn't heavily armored, but for a medium 'Mech it has a very good amount of armor. One notable feature of the Pulsar is that it does not have hand actuators, its arms ending instead in the turrets of its three medium lasers. Most LAMs possess hand actuators, but the Pulsar's were removed for space reasons. In Airmech mode, the Pulsar is able to cover 450 meters in ten seconds during a leap without heat buildup. This sort of speed is almost impossible to match except with the lightest and fastest 'Mechs, making the Pulsar a very effective strike 'Mech. Against Clan 'Mechs, it can use this to quickly negate the natural range advantage of Clan weapons, then chew through the target's armor before shooting off into the sunset again. This sort of strategy usually makes it take a few hits, but the Pulsar has enough armor to deal with that. DEPLOYMENT The Lyran Alliance and the Draconis Combine have both begun to field the Pulsar in small numbers, usually operating within a recon lance. In addition, the Pulsar has begun to gain some popularity among minor nobles in the so-called Chaos March, despite its high cost compared to such 'Mechs as the Lineholder (which costs nearly 5 million C-bills less). VARIANTS The only variant currently available is the long-range version of the Pulsar known as the PLS-3J. This version drops all of the medium pulse lasers and two double heat sinks. It then adds on two PPCs in the arms. Witha maximum effective range of 540 meters, the reduced damage of the 'Mech is negligible, leaving the Pulsar capable of moving quickly across the battlefield to place its firepower on various targets.
