During the design process, somebody noticed the actual amount of damage that a TDR-5S could discharge, and the entire engineering staff at Elisist got to thinking about how much damage individual 'Mechs could deal. When they compared that to the amount of armor most 'Mechs boasted, it seemed unusual that anything but the heaviest armor could stand up to a 'Mech's firepower. After a bit of studying, they realized that the main rreason for this was damage spread. Targeting computers have a hard time calculating dozens of different trajectories for weapons placed all over the body of the 'Mech. So, the engineers drew the logical conclusion - if all the weapons are grouped together in one spot, then the computer can more easily make its calculations, and place more firepower on more concentrated areas of enemy 'Mechs. After retrofitting the TDR-5S with an XL engine and double heat sinks, the work began on the improved grouping. The large laser on the right arm was replaced with a PPC, and since the right side of the 'Mech already housed most of the weaponry, it seemed the perfect place to keep stocking. The three medium lasers from the left torso were moved to the right torso. The left arm's machine guns were moved to the right arm, as well as adding one more. Another machine gun was added to the right torso, and a small pulse laser was put on the right arm. The 'Mech was not designed to handle all of this weight, however, and listed noticably to the right, beginning to wear down the actuators it was built with. To compensate, the right side of the body was retooled for more reinforcement. In addition, all of the heat sinks had to be located in the left side of the body, so a great deal of heat-flow systems had to be added to prevent the right side from overheating completely and malfunctioning. But in the end, a working design was produced, and was dubbed the Killing Fury. CAPABILITIES Testing proved the theory of damage spread - the right- side grouping of weapons could be fired in tandem and wound up placing much more accurate and focused firepower. However, the heat flow systems still did not quite handle all the excess heat, and the Killing Fury was hampered by this problem. (GAME EFFECT: You may lump the targeting roll for all weapons fired on the right torso or arm of the 'Mech into one roll. If successful, roll only one hit location for the weapons on the right torso or the right arm. All damage from the weapons are applied to that section. You do not need to fire all of the weapons at once, and you may not fire a weapon a target beyond its maximum range. If the roll fails, all the weapons miss their target. Each time this tactic is used, each weapon generates 1 extra heat point. Therefore, if firing the right arm in this manner, it would generate 18 points of heat (12 normal weapon heat + 6 weapons = 18).) Overall, the Killing Fury is a general improvement on the Thunderbolt's design. The armor remains the same, as does the speed, but its overall weapons load is drastically increased. In addition, its heat-dispersing capabilites are improved (although they are stretched a bit when it fires its full mass of weapons). It remains an effective long-range 'Mech, made only more deadly by its lumped weapons. DEPLOYMENT As it is possible (for a fee) to refit existing Thunderbolts as Killing Furies, several units have already begun fielding the Killing Fury where it previously placed the Thunderbolt. The Lyran Alliance has also begun field-testing the Killing Fury extensively.
