One of these staff members briefly fielded what was known as "The Wolfman" - a hybrid of a Wolverine and a Rifleman made on the battlefield. The method for making such a hybrid was well-known, and there were still a number of these units floating throughout the Inner Sphere. He suggested building a copy of this 'Mech, but with its design intended from the beginning. Thus was born the Wolfman. CAPABILITIES The Rifleman was primarily a long-range 'Mech, the Wolverine primarily a close-range 'Mech. The Wolfman, as a result, has a mix of both capabilities. The AC/5s located in the arms give it long-range capability, letting it harass enemies from afar. It carries more AC ammo than the Rifleman did, also, allowing it to stay in the fight longer. Once an enemy gets close enough, it can unleash its seven medium lasers to chew through enemy armor very effectively for a medium 'Mech. The usual strategy for the Wolfman is to haarass enemies into coming closer, until the Wolfman can open fire with its lasers and unleash the bulk of its power. A unique advantage of the Wolfman is the fact that it looks more like the Rifleman than the Wolverine or a unique 'Mech. Elisist realized this, and therefore tuned all of the systems to make it appear to sensors as if the Wolfman is a Rifleman, leading most enemies to think that they're facing a misshapen or battle-damaged Rifleman. Since the Wolfman is lighter and faster than the Rifleman, this can lead to unpleasent surprises when it covers sixty meters more than the enemy pilot thought it could! This strategy allows it to get in close with its medium lasers and begin firing away before the enemy realizes what he's up against. DEPLOYMENT The Wolfman has seen action in some quarters as a replacement for the Wolverine, although it lacks the Wolverine's jump capacity. Wolfmen are also seen in lances with Riflemen, usually 2 Wolfmen and 2 Riflemen. This allows the confusion strategy to be played to its maximum effects by keeping the Riflemen and Wolfmen moving in tandem.
