anubis
OVERVIEW After the completion of the Babylon, and a solid evaluation of its strengths and weaknesses, Clan Cloud Cobra was unsatisfied with the design. They decided that the design, while working, was ultimately not enough of what they needed, and somewhat unsatisfactory. Seeking outside help to design a new, more capable 'Mech, they were contacted by Clan Coyote with an offer to design an Omnimech exclusively for the Cloud Cobras in exchange for some of Clan Cloud Cobra's holdings. Although initially suspicious of their long-time enemies offering to provide them with this gift, they reluctantly accepted the offer. The result was the Anubis, designed like the Egyptian god of the same name, and inspired by the insignia of the Cloud Cobra's Gamma Galaxy (Pharaoh's Sentries). The Cloud Cobras were quite pleased with this design, and thought the resources expended were well worth it, not to mention that Clan Coyote did not retain the designs. However, the Coyote forces challenged the Cloud Cobras to a Trial of Possesion over the designs less than a week later, and subsequently won back the ability to produce the Omni. Furious that Clan Coyote gained their territory, used their resources, and now has another Omnimech in their arsenal, the Cloud Cobras can only console themselves in the fact that they still have the Anubis... and scold themselves for trusting their enemies.
CAPABILITIES The A configuration mounts twin Ultra AC/20s, which provides incredible hitting power in double-rate mode, enough to saw apart even assault 'Mechs. Two ER Medium Lasers provide slight longer-range firepower, the only real failing point of this configuration. Although its ammo provides for less than two minutes of sustained fire from the autocannons, those two minutes are enough to tear apart any 'Mech without trouble. The B configuration also mounts an impressive arsenal of 4 LRM-20s, along with a single ER Small Laser for close-range defense. With Artemis IV systems for its launchers and enough ammunition to maintain an 80-missile assault for two and a half minutes, the Anubis becomes a fearsome weapon. Moreover, this design can handle all the heat it generates without any spike. Configuration C is obviously designed for close-range confrontations, either in wooded enviroments or urban situations. The Anubis is equipped with eight Streak SRM-6 launchers, and mounts jump jets to increase maneuverability. With enough ammo to sustain fire with all eight launchers for more than three minutes, the streak systems further ensure ammunition conservation. Even with all the additional systems, heat is well below levels handled by the engine's integral heat sinks. Configuration D is intended more for extended campaigns than anything else - it provides range only slightly greater than configuration B, while producing nearly twice as much heat and losing nearly a third of B's damage potential. However, it uses only energy weapons, which makes it better suited to extended engagements with no time to reload. The targeting computer it houses does cost it some potential heat sinks, but improves its ability to place accurate firepower. Configuration E also mounts a targeting computer, but has signifigantly less range than D. Intended to be a somewhat more security-oriented design, the design mounts twin anti-missile systems and an ECM suite - usually enough to deter any long-range assaults long enough for it to get within range. Although its two Streak SRM-6s, four Medium Pulse Lasers, and two ER Medium Lasers do not compare to C's armament, a more conservative strategy can make maximum usage of this configuration. The final configuration to date, F, is similar to the B armament, but strips down two of the LRM-20s to LRM-10s, loses the ER Small Laser, and adds two SRM-6s. With jump jets, this configuration is more mobile than B, and can maintain its SRM fire farther than the ER Small Laser, as well as providing ample ammunition for the LRM-10s and SRM-6s. However, it does lose some of the LRM-20 ammo present in B, as well as the Artemis IV system. In addition, it suffers a signifigant heat spike if it fires all of its weapons in tandem.
